Who Really Pays Taxes?

If you think you are paying too much in taxes, you might find these statistics interesting.  (They are from the IRS as quoted by The Kiplinger Tax Letter Aug 7, 2009.)

The top 1% of filers paid 40% of the tax in 2007.  That was filers with Adjusted Gross Income of $410K or more.

The top 5% of filers paid 60% of the tax in 2007.  That was filers with AGI of $160K or more.

The top 10% of filers paid 71% of the tax in 2007.  That was filers with AGI of $113K or more.

The bottom 50% of filers only paid 3% of the tax in 2007.  (No AGI was listed.)
