md personal property taxes
Maryland personal property taxes are taxes on personal property owned by a company or individual doing business in Maryland. Personal property includes things like computers, furniture and equipment. (Real estate, vehicles, and manufacturing equipment are exempt, among other things.)
Corporations and Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) are required to file Form 1 with a $300 filing fee. It’s due April 15th, but can be extended to June 15th. If the return is not filed on time with the filing fee, penalties will apply and the entity will lose it’s “good standing” in MD, and eventually the entity will be forfeited.
Sole Proprietors and Partnerships are required to file Form AT3-51 (There’s no filing fee for this form.) Penalties will apply if it is filed late.
IMPORTANT NOTE – MD Personal Property taxes are labeled differently than Federal and state income taxes. The MD Personal Property return for the year that ended December 31, 2011, will be labeled 2012.
